Biography

I was given my first camera at around ten years old, and quickly broke it attempting to photograph crabs in a rock pool. Gladly, the replacement lived a long and happy life out of salt water, and was the tool used to create my first video. I edited it on a school laptop using Windows Movie Maker, and it still lives in a dormant little corner of the internet somewhere.

Skip forward ten years, and I managed to stumble upon a Saturday job in my local outdoor shop. After a few months of fitting walking boots and selling expensive jackets, I asked my boss if I could post a few photos on the company Instagram. For some reason, he agreed. Eventually, this resulted in the creation of a marketing department—something the two owners were insistent would never happen—and a YouTube channel. The owner of said outdoor shop and I would head out every week to film overviews of products that we liked, hoping to give those at home a better look into what we were selling if they couldn’t visit in person. Quickly, this channel gained traction, and not before long we were acquiring tens of thousands of views per week. This format continued for a few years until, after forty years of hard graft, the two owners decided to retire. We had created the blueprint to which other retailers based their channels on, something I’m still incredibly proud of to this day.

I began to film and photograph for more companies, brands and people. I filmed documentaries, products, adventures, podcasts and so much more; some of which I’ve featured below. I took on my own challenges and filmed them using the gear I’d acquired from years in that outdoor shop. I gained confidence in both my abilities as a photographer but also as an outdoor enthusiast. I invested in better equipment until I was fully self-sufficient, allowing me to create this website you’re reading today.

“The Nomad of Offas Dyke”

Quick story time. My friend Hannah and I were walking the Offas Dyke. As we passed a corner to begin an ascent, I spotted what I thought were a pile of blankets, but it turned out to have a human inside. This human turned out to be one of the most interesting people I’ve met, and about a month later he agreed to let me film a short film about his life. I hope you enjoy it; I’m pretty proud of it.

Montane Phase Gore-Tex Jacket Overview

If you’re an outdoor retailer, brand or individual looking to promote a product, this is my bread and butter. Over a decade of experience goes into the making of these videos, and the result is over 12M views across this channel alone. If you’re not able to get to a physical shop, or you’re a brand that sells purely online, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase the fit, feel and performance of the product.

Camping in Britain’s Most Remote Location

We were sat outside the pub one day and had this strange idea… where is, mathematically, the most remote point in the UK? Well, we found it (or OSmaps did), and made a video about it. If you’re a channel that is looking to undertake a silly adventure and need some capable of battling through the misery to capture a shot, give me a shout.
